Vacation 2001 - The Wild, Wild West - Bay Area Return to the main Bay Area section |
Steep Hyde Avenue
When we got to Hyde Avenue we checked out the trolley car station at the very bottom of the hill - there were tourists in LONG lines. So, we decided to "hoof it" across the city rather than ride.
Even though the walk was extremely steep and sometimes tiring, we felt we were accomplishing something. Plus, as it turned out, the trolley cars were getting packed to the gills and it probably would not have been much fun riding them anyway.
This photo was taken during our first rest on the hill. We had a guy next to us trying to parallel park on that hill with a stick shift car... pretty funny!
